The name "Carceri" in Italian means "prison." As for the "Eremo delle Carceri" near Assisi, it was a place of peace where friars "imprisoned" themselves in prayer. Later, it was inhabited by farming families connected with the cultivation of the surrounding land. After a long period of abandonment, the hamlet was now a ruin... until its rebirth in 2000, thanks to a careful restoration that respected its historical soul. Today, the Antico Borgo Carceri has returned to its former glory, with interior spaces made even warmer and more atmospheric, manicured gardens and large terraces where friends and family can be welcomed in an authentic and relaxed atmosphere.
