Puglia is clean-lined and convivial. The masseria — the fortified white farm estate — sets the aesthetic: lime-washed walls, olive groves to the horizon, festoon lights over a courtyard built for feasting. Sicily is layered and theatrical. Greek temples, Norman cathedrals, Spanish baroque towns the colour of honey — and venues to match: noble villas outside Palermo, bagli (courtyard wine estates) in the west, and the old tuna fisheries — the tonnare — standing right on the water, like Tonnara di Scopello in our hero image. A Sicilian wedding feels like marrying inside three thousand years of Mediterranean history, because you are.

The feast — the happiest tie in Italy

You will not settle this one on food. Puglia brings the famous antipasto spectacle — burrata made that morning, Adriatic crudo, a dozen dishes before the orecchiette arrives. Sicily counters with arancini at aperitivo, pasta alla Norma, the catch from three coasts, Etna wines, and a cannoli-and-granita finale carrying centuries of Arab-Norman pastry tradition. Both regions feed eighty people magnificently for €130–180 a head — the per-head price that makes the south's budgets work.

The practical differences

Logistics. Puglia is the simpler machine: Bari and Brindisi airports sit under ninety minutes from virtually every venue, and the wedding country is one connected corridor. Sicily is a small continent — Palermo and the west, Catania, Noto and the baroque south-east are different trips. The rule: pick your corner of the island, fly into its airport, and keep the whole weekend within it.

Capacity. Both are big-wedding champions. Puglia's masserie routinely take 250–500; Sicily answers with Tenuta Savoca (450), Tenuta San Marco (400), and Villa Tasca's near-limitless Palermo parkland. If your guest list scares other regions, neither of these will blink.

The sea. Puglia's Adriatic is beach-club territory — flat, turquoise, swimmable into October. Sicily's coast is wilder and more varied: coves like Scopello's, volcanic east-coast beaches, and offshore islands for the honeymoon. Both deliver; Sicily's is more dramatic, Puglia's more convenient.
